Hurricane Preparation - Property Inventory

How to make a potential home insurance claim go more quickly.

Electric Insurance is deeply committed to our customers and wants to ensure we can process claims as quickly and thoroughly as possible. There are things you can do now, before the storm hits, that will help ensure that you can provide us with the information about your personal possessions we need to resolve your claim quickly, accurately, and fairly.

What to do now

Take videos or still photos of your personal property and upload them to a cloud-based server or photo-sharing service. Saving the files to a service ensures you have a record of your possessions if your phone or video camera is lost, destroyed, or stolen.

Hint: you can email them to yourself for later downloading if needed.

A photo inventory helps your insurer process your claim more quickly.

Where to look

  • Take photos of each room.
  • Open all closets, cabinets, and drawers and record the contents.
  • Don’t forget to record the contents of your attic or cellar.
  • Take photos of your deck/patio/gazebo to record any furniture, flower boxes, etc.
  • Take photos of the contents of your garage, storage shed, and/or pool house.
  • Check your vehicles: personal possessions in your vehicles are covered by your homeowner insurance, not your auto insurance. Make sure you record items in your vehicles.

This visual record will allow you to make a fast and accurate list of your damaged or destroyed property if you must file a claim.
